The good old days?

Ahhh, the good old days. Where men were the bread winners and the women cooked the bread. As a male of the species growing up at 1234 Pease Court my future role in society was well defined and predictable. Get through high school if you could, if not, join a military service when you were seventeen. If you graduated from high school you still went to the military like it or not, and then a job in a factory and join a labor union. Get married, have kids, be the bread winner, bounce the grand kids on your knee while you collect social security upon retirement. It seamed to me that the girls had the easier choice. Get through high school if you could, find a husband, and have some kids, but you didn't have to get a job or go into the military. In 2009 boys and girls have many more options. Neither has to do military service if they don't wish. But girls are expected to work even if they bear children. Even in our economically tough times college is more accessible for lower middle class boys and girls through scholarships and state programs. Maybe the good old days are happening now where dreamers of both genders can dream bigger dreams. Ron
