I enjoyed reading about Dad & Dorothy's trip to the horse show and elsewhere. It got me to thinking about the many trips I have made in my life time. Kenny was an executive with a life insurance company for many years and because of that we were able to go on many fun adventures. Each year we would travel to different locations for the company convention. Most often we would take an extra week after the convention to go on our own sight seeing tours in whatever state we happened to be in. Among my favorite places was The Greenbrier which is located in West Virginia. It is a magnificent and very old hotel. I have had the pleasure of touring the whole place with the man who wrote the history of the place and own an autographed copy of the book that he wrote about the Greenbrier. What I did not know during those visits to the Greenbrier, was that in those days it was the secret fall out shelter for the United States Congress. For those that read this on line you can click on

Here is a story about another company trip that was very memorable for Kenny & I.
The company convention was to be held in Quebec Canada. All of our arrangements were made and babysitters lined up. The suitcases were packed and ready to be put in the car. Kenny had been having some hemorrhoid problems and all of a sudden one started bleeding profusely. We made an emergency visit to a doctor who wanted to put him in the hospital. He said he couldn't do that as we were just getting ready to leave on a trip. They called around and found a surgeon that would do a hemorrhoidectomy in his office and off to Pittsburgh we headed. Now in order to have that done in a doctors office you cannot be put under or any other form of pain relief. Can you say OUCH! Being the tough guy that my husband is, he went ahead and had them do it. It was very painful. Now here we are with a trip of many hours ahead of us and he could barely sit down. Kenny was determined to go so we stopped and purchased a donut pillow and made the decision that I would do all of the driving. We did finally make it to Quebec with many stops along the way. The week at the convention gave him time to heal. When the convention was over we headed on into the other provinces of Canada. It was very strange to get to parts of that country where they do not speak English. It was challenging to order food in restaurants as we did not speak French. Somehow we managed and always had good food to eat, though sometimes got things we had not meant to get. We traveled down into New Brunswick and spent a full day there sight seeing and spent the night. From there we took a Ferry to Maine. At least we were back where they spoke our language. The thing Kenny loved most about Maine was the lobster. We watched as the boats came in with their lobster catch and unload. The lobster were taken directly from there to the pier restaurants and cooked. Now that is fresh. I won't bore you with all that we saw on that trip but we spent a whole week touring all of the North Eastern states. We had no particular plan but would go to a local tour guide shops and pick up brochures each day. We would spend time in the hotel at night going through the brochures and make a decision what we would do the following day. It turned out to be the best trip that we ever took and one that Kenny & I will always remember. LaDonna
