Go fly a kite!

Pease Court ran east to west and in late winter and early spring the prevailing winds blew in from the bay in a west to east direction. We would buy our kite kits from the five and dime store on Encinal. After assembling the kites we would add strips of torn cloth rags to the ends to stabilize them for flight. And then it was a challenge to get the kite airborne without getting hung up on the telephone and electric wires running the length of the street. Once that was accomplished the next goal was to add string to see how high you could go before losing the whole thing to the winds above. During that kite season you could find remnants of kites hung up in trees and telephone poles all over town. Ron
