No matter which way we chose to travel, it was going to take us 4 days and 4 nights to arrive at our destination. If we chose to travel the other ways, part of our travels would have been by bus and we would be traveling the whole time.
It was a lot more enjoyable to have a break from traveling and to spend the night in Chicago in a hotel. Because of two other previous train trips that Ginger and I had taken to go visit LaDonna, we were familiar with downtown Chicago. It's an interesting city to visit.
We chose to spend the night in the La Quinta Inn because it was walking distance from the train station and the price fit our budget. Once the train arrived, we headed to our hotel. We didn't have much in the way of luggage, so Ginger rolled it down the sidewalk while I carried our purses.
We were very pleased with our hotel choice and we would stay there again if the opportunity ever arises. We had a nice room with two beds. A huge breakfast was included in the price of our room. The breakfast was a "serve yourself" type breakfast. We enjoyed making our own waffles. We drank coffee and orange juice. The breakfast also included eggs and choices of breakfast meats, many different kinds of cereals, yogurt, lots of different kinds of fruit and muffins. I won't tell you how much we ate, but we were full and happy when we left the dining area the next morning.
That afternoon, after we checked into our room, we took a shower, changed clothes and headed out to explore the city.
In the next chapter, I'll tell you what we did in Chicago.
